In order to promote R&D activities of young hydrographic engineers and technicians thus to develop and promote the hydrographic technology, a fund for "Hydrographic Technology Encouragement Award" was created by the Japan Hydrographic Association (JHA). The "JHA Award" is given every year to those who have been selected based on their R&D achievements in hydrography, oceanography and nautical cartography.
